Stomach acidity is an uncomfortable burning sensation that begins in the lower chest and can extend to the throat.
In most cases, this disorder occurs when gastric acids flow back up through the sphincter that separates the stomach from the esophagus and fails to close completely or in the presence of some pressure on the stomach.
The most common symptoms are a sour or bitter taste in the throat and a burning sensation in the chest. Among the factors that trigger stomach acid are:

The first measure against acidity is a simple glass of water. It will help you dilute the acid and make it easier to return to your stomach.
2. Baking soda
Baking soda, which you can find in any supermarket, is well known for its alkaline properties which help neutralize stomach and body acidity in general.
How do you take it? Dissolve a teaspoon of baking soda in a glass of water. Drink it slowly: it will help to relieve the burning.
3. Potato juice
The active ingredients of the potato help neutralize stomach acid and regulate the production of gastric juices. Its juice is ideal for fighting heartburn and gastritis.
Extract a spoonful of potato juice, dilute it in a little water and drink it after consuming a large or heavy meal.
Ginger was held in high esteem already in ancient times for its precious digestive virtues. It is effective in case of acidity, thanks to its slight alkalizing effect which regulates the pH of the stomach and helps to balance acid compounds.
- A teaspoon of ginger root (3 g)
- A cup of water (250 ml)
- Heat the water and, when it comes to a boil, pour in a teaspoon of ginger root.
- Let it cook for about ten minutes, then strain the herbal tea and drink it.
5. Aniseed herbal tea
Anise proves to be a good home remedy for stomach acid and all its symptoms ; nevertheless, the first time must be taken with care; some people, in fact, are allergic to its active ingredients.
- 2 teaspoons of anise (6 g)
- 1 cup of water (250 ml)
- Heat the water and, when it comes to a boil, pour in the two teaspoons of anise.
- Let it cook for about ten minutes, let it rest for another ten and then drink the herbal tea.
6. Apple cider vinegar
Although the taste of vinegar is acidic, when it enters our body it has an alkaline effect which helps to decrease its acidity.
- 1 tablespoon of vinegar (15 ml)
- 1 glass of water (200 ml)
It is enough to dilute a tablespoon of vinegar in a glass of water. Drink it immediately after consuming a large meal.
7. Aloe vera juice
Having an aloe vera plant at home means you can always count on one of the best natural remedies, capable of treating various diseases. In this case, its gel acts as a stomach tonic, ideal for regulating acidity and improving food digestion.
Extract two tablespoons of gel from the aloe leaf and add them to your smoothies or take it as is.
It contains a digestive enzyme, papain, which intervenes in various digestive processes and helps to relieve burning. It is recommended in the treatment of some common ailments such as constipation, indigestion and gastritis. Eat a piece of papaya, plain, in fruit juice or pureed in a smoothie.
An infusion of cinnamon can do wonders for our digestion and fight ailments such as acidity, gas and inflammation.
- A teaspoon of cinnamon (3 g)
- A cup of water (250 ml)
- Boil the water, then pour in a teaspoon of cinnamon.
- Let the herbal tea rest for about ten minutes and then drink.
- You can enhance its effect by mixing it with a little honey.
This delicious fruit has a pH of 5.6, which makes it a good remedy to calm the symptoms of stomach acid ; nevertheless, not everyone has a good effect. If you want to try it as a natural remedy for heartburn, eat only one piece.
