Do your nails break easily? Can’t get those beautiful hands you so long for? Do you feel brittle nails, which tend to split into layers? Then write down these natural recipes to strengthen brittle nails!
Brittle and broken nails: why do we need to strengthen nails?
Housework, being in contact with cleaning products without using gloves, lack of hydration, fungus or cold are just some of the reasons why nails break … and always near the finger (where it does worst).
We have to reconcile the numerous activities carried out at home and at work with the desire to feel in order. And that includes the hands and, of course, the nails. How to prevent them from flaking? To begin with, adopt these good habits.
Always wash dishes with gloves
Of course, this also applies to when we clean windows, wash floors, etc. Cleaning products contain chemicals that attack the skin and nails. Moreover, always being in contact with boiling or cold water is not good for the hands either.
Consume more protein and fatty acids
Many times nail weakness is caused by a lack of nutrients. Maybe you need to review your diet. Start including white meats, eggs, green leafy vegetables, and soy to boost your protein intake. Fatty acids, on the other hand, are found in nuts, dairy products, oils and seeds.
Repair the broken nail immediately
When a nail breaks, you can cut or file it, but it will stay shorter than the others. You can avoid cutting it by applying on the break, a drop of nail glue and immediately after a very small square of paper obtained from a tea bag. To do this, help yourself with tweezers.
When the glue has dried completely, make the surface of the nail uniform with a file. Finish the job with a layer of clear nail polish.
Keep your nails short
They are the trend of this autumn-winter, but above all you will prevent the nails from breaking or flaking so easily.
It would also be better to avoid scratching off the enamel when it begins to peel off, which weakens the surface.
Beware of nail products
Traditional acetone is pretty harsh on nails: limit its use to once a week or look for more gentle alternatives, such as natural oil-based nail polish removers.
The use of false nails or hardeners should also be limited because they thin the natural nail and take away part of its surface when removing them.
We also advise you not to keep the nail polish constantly. Let them rest at least once a week (for example, on Sundays).
Don’t use your nails as tools
They are not scissors, they do not open the caps, they do not remove the labels, they do not scratch the surfaces. For all these jobs, use the right tool. The “daily challenges” solved with the nails end up weakening them.
Don’t eat them and don’t put them in your mouth
Apart from the fact that bitten nails are not beautiful to look at and that this way you bring all kinds of germs to the mouth, this bad habit causes them to flake and weaken.
Get a manicure once a week
You can do it yourself at home or treat yourself to a session at the beautician. Do not forget to do a gentle exfoliation, filing and, if you want to pamper yourself, finish with a massage based on essential oils (or simply with olive oil).
Natural treatments to strengthen brittle nails
To improve the health of your nails, as well as change some wrong behaviors, take advantage of nature and try one of these remedies.
It helps to strengthen the nails and prevent them from becoming inflamed or infected with a fungal infection. The procedure is simple: cut an onion in half and keep your fingers in it for at least 5 minutes. When finished, wait two hours before washing your hands.
The ideal would be to do this treatment in the evening, at least 3 times a week. Do you feel it?
Garlic to strengthen nails
It has similar properties to onion. It also helps your nails grow faster and stronger.
- 1 clove of garlic
- 1 cup of water
- The juice of 1 lemon
Chop a clove of garlic and put it in a saucepan with a cup of water. When it starts to boil, let the water use up almost completely. Add the lemon juice. Put it in a jar with a lid and leave it in the fridge for a few hours.
Soak a cotton ball with this ointment and pass it all over your nails (without polish). Repeat for a few days, always in the evening, so that the treatment can work all night.
Olive oil to strengthen the nails
It not only strengthens the nails, but also leaves the fingers soft.
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil (25 g)
- 5 drops of lemon juice
Heat the oil over low heat. When it has cooled, pour in the lemon. Soak gauze or a cotton ball and wipe it on your nails. Leave for 5 minutes, then put on cotton gloves. Sleep like this and in the morning it will be perfectly absorbed.
Horsetail to strengthen the nails
It is perfect for treating flaking nails. You can use it alone or mixed with other herbs. Try it in the form of herbal tea.
- 1 tablespoon of horsetail (10 g)
- 1 cup of boiling water (250 ml)
Prepare the infusion normally and, when it cools, strain it. Dip your fingers in the cup for about ten minutes. Rub your cuticles as well. Finally, let it dry without rinsing. Repeat the treatment 4 times a week.
